The Venerable J. David Stanway died March 3, 2024 at the age of 83. Best friend and dearly beloved husband of Judith Mackenzie Stanway. Loving father to Heather (Mark Ross), Beth (Tom Klemmer), and John David (Danielle Bennett). Much loved Poppy to Jacob and Suzie Klemmer, Beatrice and Lionel Stanway, and Adele Bennett. Survived by his brother Ted (late Judy). David was predeceased by his first wife, Suzanne des Trois Maisons Stanway.

Born June 30, 1941 in Montreal QC, Stanway was a graduate of Sir George Williams University (B.Sc.), McGill University (M.A.) and Montreal Diocesan College (M.Th.) before earning his Doctorate in Ministry from Seabury-Western. An Anglican priest, ordained in 1966, Stanway worked as a parish priest in the Diocese of Montreal and the Diocese of New York (St. John’s Monticello and New Windsor). In 2003 he was appointed Archdeacon of the Richelieu. After his retirement in 2006, David moved to Ottawa, although he continued to spend summers at his beloved cottage in St. Anicet.

In retirement David spent many hours working on his model railroad setup – a source of great pleasure for him and for his grandchildren. Services were held at St. Aidan’s Anglican Church, 934 Hamlet Rd, Ottawa on Friday, March 8th, 2024.
