Five Pathways for Baptismal Living courses begin in September 2023. Explore the list below for introductions to each course. To learn more and register, click on the course title or picture. Once registered, you will join a learning community for 4-8 weeks, depending on the course. Together, you will engage 3-4 hours/week of reading, watching videos, and interacting with peers and your instructor in online text-based discussions that you can schedule to do when you want (asynchronous) each week as well as through live conversations via Zoom (synchronous). 
Foundations for Baptismal Living Sept 3-Sept 30, 2023Instructor: Elizabeth Mae Magill All the baptized are invited to reflect on who we are as God’s people, and to consider how “who I am” affects “what I see,” “how I respond,” and what is my theological explanation for that. We will learn how to “think theologically” and use a racial justice approach to addressing difference. Register
Discerning My Path for Faithful Living September 1-December 9, 2023Instructor: Jenny Puri Beaumont and cohort facilitators More than a course, this innovative communal process combines large group engagement with participation in covenant groups of 6-8 participants with a trained facilitator to encourage each person to practice discernment of their call as a baptized Christian and equip them to actively be the Body of Christ in daily life. Worship Leader Training September 10-November 4, 2023Instructor: M. Milner Seifert Develop your sermons and gain confidence effectively delivering them. Typically taken after taking Foundations of Faith, Engaging Gods Word, and Theology and Ethics. (This course satisfies canonical requirements for Preaching license with approval of your Bishop.) Register
Understanding Addiction and Supporting Recovery: Strategies & Tools September 10-November 4, 2023Instructor: Jan Brown Grounded in scripture, tradition and reason, this training helps individuals and religious communities to reflect critically on the current state of substance use and addiction, to prepare to minister as Recovery Allies and/or Rapid Response Teams, to prepare their churches/dioceses to be Safe Havens and/or Recovery Ready Churches, and to share Christ’s love with those struggling with substance use. Mentoring Deacons September 17-October 15, 2023Instructor: Geri Swanson This course is designed to provide potential deacon mentors with the tools and skills to guide, encourage and support the newly ordained deacon. Participants will learn the language of mentoring including focused interaction, competency-based conversation, and questioning skills needed to move the newly ordained into a broader scope of ministry. Developed in response to A Christian Life of Faith: Signs and Thresholds Along the Way, these courses provide numerous paths for you to deepen your faith, gain confidence using the language and tools of ministry, and support you as you contribute your gifts in meaningful ways. Explore the questions faith inspires through a single course or follow a series using the categories provided by the Pathways Library that include Discerning My Path, Fundamentals of Faith, Church-wide Imperatives, Pathways for Living your Faith in the World and in the Church, as well as Pathways for Lay Leaders, Deacons, Priests and Bishops.
