Beyond the Book of Alternative Services: The Role of Alternative Texts and Ordos in Transformative Worship
In the Anglican tradition, how we pray shapes what we believe and as such, worship is meant to be transformative. Liturgical reform and renewal that enables ease of use and encourages participation is foundational to the Anglican tradition, yet many worshipping communities remain bound to worship within the confines of worship books. The dependence on worship books inhibits the worship experience by interfering with the visual connection that is an essential element of transformative worship. The thesis explores the use of alternative texts and ordos as a means of engaging worshippers and provides suggestions on introducing and developing liturgical formation and liturgical reform in the parish.
