This course offers a holistic view of caring ministries focusing on the ultimate meaning and concerns of human beings. Pastoral Theology will focus on the spiritual/theological needs of persons as well as on emotional and systemic concerns. The appropriate balance of listening and speaking when providing care are central to the course. Students will be introduced to a variety of contexts for care: within specialized ministry settings; around various addictions; transitions in personal and congregational life; family, individual or community crisis; death and dying; mental emotional illness; and referral. Prerequisite is one unit of CPE; exceptions may be granted with the permission of the instructor.
