PLEASE JOIN US Wednesday, September 23 for a long-overdue community dialogue. We will gather as learners and disciples to consider the urgent need for individuals and communities to confront the sin of racism and begin the arduous work ahead to repent and reconcile.

We look forward to welcoming members of the Bexley Seabury, Bexley Hall and Seabury-Western communities, as well as leaders of neighboring churches, civic leaders, our partners in the Theological Consortium of Greater Columbus, and colleagues and friends throughout the greater Columbus area.

All events will be held at St. Philip Episcopal Church, 166 Woodland Avenue, Columbus. Many thanks to the people of St. Philip’s for hosting this important conversation.

To help us plan hospitality, please RESERVE VIA EMAIL with Shirla Langknecht. Please feel free to invite colleagues and friends to join us for this important and all-too-timely program. Scroll down for a schedule recap. Map and driving directions

Faith After #Ferguson:
All We Have to Lose Are Our Chains

PART 1: Lunch & Conversation

Our day begins with time to welcome our alums, students, friends, and neighbors. Be our guest for lunch and enjoy informal conversation with Bexley Seabury President Roger Ferlo. Lunch will be provided through Freshbox, a Columbus-based employment readiness and advanced job skill training ministry of Lutheran Social Services of Southern Ohio.

PART 2:Awakening the WHITE Church

From the immediate aftermath of the police killing of Michael Brown through the past year of non-violent protest, community organizing, and political action, Episcopal Church leaders have been on the ground in Ferguson and greater St. Louis. Prominent among those leaders has been Mike Kinman, dean of Christ Church Cathedral, St. Louis. In his plenary address, “Faith After #Ferguson: All We Have to Lose Are Our Chains,” Mike will share his experience helping the Cathedral community to respond faithfully to the killing of Michael Brown.

PART 3: OTHER VOICES, OTHER PERSPECTIVES

A roundtable of local community and church leaders will respond to Mike’s remarks, drawing on their experiences. Following the panelists’ responses, the roundtable moderator will lead an open dialogue.

PART 4: RECEPTION & CONTINUED CONVERSATION

The closing reception will be an opportunity to continue conversation and, with God’s help, explore ways to unite and act for justice.
