Community Life

campus

THANK YOU for visiting Bexley Seabury online. Wherever our community gathers, everyone is welcome.

Bexley Seabury seeks to affirm all persons who are faithfully living out their vocations within our community—students, staff and faculty—without prejudice to any person regardless of race, color, gender, age, physical disability, height or weight, national and ethnic origin, marital status, veteran status, sexual orientation/identity or gender identification.

Bexley Seabury offers hybrid courses and week-long intensive classes, both with ongoing online study at our campus in Chicago.

The Bexley Seabury community includes students from all regions of the country and numerous religious traditions and faith communities. They are drawn not only by rigorous and innovative coursework and creative teaching approaches, but also by the opportunity to form a community with other persons of faith who are pursuing theological studies while growing spiritually and managing busy lives that may include the demands of work and family.

Our Campus

The Bexley Seabury community in Chicago includes students from all regions of the country and numerous religious traditions and faith communities. They are drawn not only by rigorous coursework and creative teaching, but also by the opportunity to form a community with other men and women who are pursuing theological studies while managing busy lives that may include the demands of work and family.

Ours is a campus within a campus, at Chicago Theological Seminary, 1407 East 60th Street in the Hyde Park/Woodlawn district, a hub of learning and civic responsibility since the mid 1800s. Co-located with CTS, we particiapte in and contribute to an ecumenically and otherwise diverse community of scholars and students.

The CTS campus is beautifully appointed, well-equipped, inviting, and accessible for individuals with differing needs. Bexley Seabury staff and faculty offices are located on the second floor, and our community has access to classrooms and common space throughout, including two chapels, the Lapp Learning Commons, student lounge and meditation room. The campus grounds, building design, materials, and furnishings are environmentally responsible and earned CTS a coveted Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification.

In addition to CTS, we are close neighbors with four more seminaries, all within a mile: Chicago Catholic Union, Lutheran School of Theologoy Chicago, McCormick Theological School, and the University of Chicago Divinity School.

Worship is central to the Bexley Seabury experience. Students collaborate in designing the liturgies, and are encouraged to help lead worship.

Most Bexley Seabury courses are offered in a low-residency hybrid intensive format, with concentrated classroom sessions supplemented by online learning. Depending on the program and course, students usually meet at our Hyde Park/Woodlawn location:

  • Three Friday-Saturday weekends spread over three months
  • One week, Monday-Friday in January and/or June
  • Three-weeks each summer for three summers
