Bexley Seabury seeks to affirm all persons who are faithfully living out their vocations within our community—students, staff and faculty—without prejudice to any person regardless of race, color, gender, age, physical disability, height or weight, national and ethnic origin, marital status, veteran status, sexual orientation/identity or gender identification.

The Bexley Seabury community in Chicago includes students from all regions of the country and numerous religious traditions and faith communities. They are drawn not only by rigorous coursework and creative teaching, but also by the opportunity to form a community with other men and women who are pursuing theological studies while managing busy lives that may include the demands of work and family.

Our Chicago campus is a blend of urban and suburban, located in the headquarters of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in northwest Chicago, about 10 minutes from O’Hare Airport. Our facility is gracious and modern, and provides ample dedicated space—for worship, learning, gathering, lounging, dining, meeting, administering—as well as access to a second chapel.

Low-residency graduateand continuing-education studies typically lead to a “blinders-on” experience for students who become fully immersed in coursework—no time to interact with colleagues or similar “distractions.” Yet students at Bexley Seabury make the most of the opportunities to develop and deepen relationships through classroom discussion, collaborating on a project, conversations over shared meals, or an occasional night out to explore Chicago.

Worship is central to the Bexley Seabury experience. When low-residency courses are in session, Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer and Holy Eucharist are offered Monday through Saturday, plus Compline on Friday and Saturday nights. Students collaborate in designing the liturgies, and are encouraged to help lead worship.

Community life at Bexley Seabury is vibrant, a surprise for those who enroll for other reasons. “Despite our episodic contact with one another, I have developed deep relationships with fellow students, staff, and faculty,” one student said. “I graduated from a traditional seminary 13 years ago and remember my years there most fondly because of the camaraderie between the students. It has been no different for me at Bexley Seabury.”
